In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
Indigenous Children Matter
A genocide was committed against against Indigenous people through the Indian Residential Schools (IRS) system. The harm committed continues to be felt today. My own ignorance of the extreme intergenerational trauma inflicted on Canada's Indigenous people is one that I continue to grapple with as it deeply shames me. As I continue to educate myself and publicly acknowledge my ignorance, I want to move forward teaching my own children and those around me about genocide and lasting harm committed against children who were stolen from their families and cultures. The educating I am doing within myself and with my children isn't something that needs to be done only on one day. This work must be done every single day. I am sharing a list of resources I have started to compile and will add to that you can use yourself, your children and in the classroom.
If you have any resources you will like to see added here, please email me at hello@madamepremier.com and I will update the list.
Let's not be ignorant anymore.
